This week Josh and I got distracted, blew past our intended stop on the Brown Line and wound up instead at Technology station. Hungry, we checked google maps for restaurant suggestions. To our surprise, a VERY authentically named Mexican Restaurant popped up!
As a vegetarian, I brace myself anytime I order Mexican food outside of the US or Mexico. I have strong feelings about broccoli, green beans or basically any vegetables other than tomatoes, lettuce, onions and avocado showing up in my burrito.
As Jim Gaffagin aptly explained, all Mexican food is essential rice, beans & cheese with a tortilla. And that’s how I like it! That’s why I like Nala’s burritos! And why I’m ecstatic about Teotihuacan enchiladas. No surprise vegetables! And furthermore, they’re actually made with corn tortillas! The enchilada sauce is spicy and delicious. And they come complete with lots of cheese and sour cream! (They also list an option for vegan enchiladas but I have not intention of ever trying them) These are the first real enchiladas I’ve found in Asia and it’s big news in my little vegetarian expat world!
Directions: Take the Brown Line to Technology Station, then follow googlemaps! (it’s about a 10 minute walk)
Hours: 12pm – 9pm daily
$$ Price: Entrees average about $300NT
(You can check out their English menu, on their website here)
* Update: We’ve gone back a couple of times now. The enchilada’s are definitely their highlight item, as far as I’m concerned. But their flan and carlota desserts are also really nice! We did find out there is no vegan option for the enchiladas though. And if you’re looking for a burrito I think Nala’s is just as good if not better and is cheaper.
